BitFlash DX Document Transcoder
Add value to your existing mobile email solution with the BitFlash Document Transcoder (DX). By including DX into your current offerings, your customers will benefit from a unique mobile experience, which translates to increased revenue.
Designed for large-scale enterprise environments, DX allows mobile operators, infrastructure vendors, and handset manufacturers to deliver and predictably render popular desktop file formats to a wide variety of mobile devices, over a wireless network. Unlike other document transcoding systems, DX preserves the layout and graphics from the original document, and enables advanced user interaction features such as zooming in/out and toggling between text and graphics views. For the first time, users get a truly useful, accurate view of their desktop files on a wireless device.
Distributed as a compiled Java library, DX can be embedded into an existing server environment and controlled through a series of APIs. Using file conversion and optimization algorithms, DX processes a variety of input types into Mobile SVG data formatted for viewing on handsets equipped with either the BitFlash Mobile SVG Player or with any standard SVG Tiny viewer. DX is ideal for service providers and infrastructure vendors targeting enterprises that want to communicate existing data to customers, partners, and employees in mobile environments.
DX Benefits
Increase your ARPU
Increase your Average Revenue Per User by providing DX as a value-added service to your existing mobile email customers
Experience clear and immediate ROI
When subscribers view DX documents on their handsets, they feel assured that they are getting an accurate representation of critical information on which they can act immediately. This positive experience results in more frequent use and, in turn, in increased revenue for the service provider.
Provide a unique mobile email solution
Differentiate your mobile email solution by providing a unique way of viewing attachments. Because DX preserves the original layout, formatting, and graphics from the original file, the document that the user sees on the device screen is virtually identical to the desktop version.
Generate small files that conserve bandwidth
DX creates high-quality, bandwidth-efficient output files:
5-20 Kb per page, regardless of the size of the original file. These files can be quickly transmitted over wireless networks, resulting in substantial savings for both the user and the service provider.
DX Features
DX generates high-quality, small size output: under 20Kb per page
100% J2EE-compliant, with no Windows dependencies. DX can be integrated into any custom or application-server environment (Windows or Unix) running Sun Microsystems’ Java SDK 1.4.2 or later.
DX supports several popular desktop input file formats:
- Microsoft Office documents (Windows versions 97 through 2003): Word, Excel, PowerPoint
- Adobe PDF
- HTML
- Raster image formats: JPG, PNG, GIF, BMP, TIFF
DX is designed for deployment in mobile operator and large enterprise environments. Its high performance allows for transcoding of large volumes documents in real time
So how does it work?
The DX library can easily be integrated into an existing conversion server environment. The server framework controls DX through a series of APIs, performing such tasks as initiating the conversion transaction, handling results, and configuring and monitoring the transaction. The output data, profiled for specific mobile devices, can be used in conjunction with the BitFlash Mobile SVG Player, or can be encapsulated for use with MMS applications or microbrowser-enabled devices without the BitFlash viewer.
The following diagram illustrates a typical BitFlash DX integration.
